Tinos has no airport, and that is part of its charm: everyone arrives by sea. Here is how to get here from Athens or Mykonos, and how to move around once you land.
By ferry from Athens
Tinos is served by two Athens ports.
- Rafina is the easiest choice if you land at Athens airport, because it is much closer to the airport than Piraeus. Most ferries to Tinos leave from here, and the trip takes about 2 to 4 hours depending on the boat.
- Piraeus, the main port of Athens, has at least one daily ferry. The trip takes about 3.5 to 5 hours.
In summer there are several departures a day. Book ahead in July and August, and well in advance around 15 August, when thousands of pilgrims travel to the island. You can compare timetables and book every ferry company in one place on Ferryhopper.
By ferry from Mykonos
Mykonos, the next island, has an international airport, and the crossing to Tinos takes only 15 to 30 minutes. In high season there are many boats a day, so flying to Mykonos and hopping over is often the quickest way to reach us from abroad.
From other islands
Tinos also has direct ferries to Andros and Syros, and connections to Paros, Naxos and more, so it fits easily into island hopping.
Arriving at the port
All ferries arrive at the port of Tinos town. AESIS is a short drive from the port, in the village of Krokos, with free parking right at the door and self check-in. For the way from the port to the house, see our Getting here page.
Getting around the island

- Car: the best way to enjoy Tinos. The villages and wild beaches are spread out, and many are best reached by car. You can rent one in Tinos town, for example from Dimitris Rent a Car; book ahead in summer. Some beach roads end in dirt tracks, so drive slowly.
- Bus: local buses connect Tinos town with the main villages and, in summer, popular beaches like Agios Fokas and Agios Ioannis Porto.
- Taxi: available in town, useful for evenings out. Book ahead in high season.
When to come

- June and September: warm sea, calmer winds and fewer people. Our favourite months.
- July and August: the liveliest time, and the season of the meltemi wind. Use our beach guide to find calm water.
- Spring and autumn: perfect for walking and village life, see things to do.
